Classic Season: Werner Herzog

Few filmmakers working today have achieved cult figure status like German New Wave pioneer Werner Herzog. Whether he’s hauling a 300-ton steamboat over a Peruvian mountainside, hypnotising his actors, climbing down into volcanoes, or eating his own shoe, his filmography is marked by its astonishing breadth and philosophical depth.

With the release of his autobiography, and a new documentary about his life and work, we’re celebrating the films of pioneering German director Werner Herzog with a short season featuring some of his classic fiction features.
