FAQs

Buying Tickets

Do I need to pre-book tickets for screenings?

Screenings do sometimes sell out, especially on weekends and during our busier seasons (autumn and winter). With that in mind, we do recommend pre-booking tickets. However, if you don’t have a chance to do so, you can still buy your tickets in person at the Box Office. The Box Office opens 30mins before the advertised start-time of the screening.

Can I choose which seat I sit in?
Yes! When booking online, you’ll notice that we have allocated seating plan. This way you can book your favourite seat! Your seat number will be detailed on your booking confirmation email, and if you struggle to find your seat please ask a member of staff or a volunteer to assist you.

There might be some screenings or events in which seating is unallocated. In those cases, if you have a favourite seat, we recommend arriving early so that you can claim it in good time. Doors open 30mins before the advertised start-time.

Do you charge online booking fees?
Yes, we charge a £0.75 online booking fee per ticket. This helps us to pay for the ticketing software and website management, ensuring we can provide you with the best possible experience.

As a community benefit society, we don’t charge this to make a profit. This contribution helps us continue delivering our diverse cinema programme, supports community and outreach work in East Oxford, and helps us connect with our audiences in more meaningful ways.

Please note that a special perk of having an Annual Membership is not paying any booking fees. Find out more about the other benefits of being a UPP member by clicking here.

You can also avoid booking fees by purchasing tickets in-person at the Box Office.

I booked online, but can no longer attend the screening. Can I get a exchange/refund?
If you give us 24hrs notice prior to the screening, we will happily exchange your ticket for you.

Exchanges can be given for another screening up to one month ahead of the advertised start time (subject to availability and at the discretion of the Duty Manager). Where the new screening is of a higher cost, the price difference will be charged, but if lower we regret we will not be able to offer a refund.

The UPP regrets that tickets cannot be refunded except in the case of a cancelled screening / event. Booking fees (where applicable) are non-refundable.

I’ve booked online but I haven’t received a booking confirmation.
Please have a look in your spam/junk folder as sometimes confirmation emails can end up there. If you still can’t find it, please send us an email with your name, the film, the date, and the time so we can investigate for you.

How close to the advertised start time does the film actually start?
We don’t show loads of ads and trailers like other cinemas do – the film starts 10 minutes after the advertised time. So please don’t be late if you don’t want to miss the start of the film!

At the cinema

Can I bring in my own food and drink?
We’d prefer that you use our bar, but if you’d rather bring your own snacks and drinks, that’s totally fine. However, we do not allow hot food in the cinema out of respect to your fellow audience members. And please remember to take all rubbish with you and put it in the bin as you leave.

What about popcorn?
We serve freshly made popcorn at the bar, so no need to smuggle in a bag of supermarket stuff.

Accessibility

Do you have disabled access?
Yes. The cinema is on street level. There is one small step up into the auditorium, but we have a portable ramp for ease of access. Just ask a member of staff for assistance.

Can I book a wheelchair user space online?
Yes. We have a single bookable wheelchair space on our website, identifiable by a Wheelchair User icon on our Seating Plan. This space is not a fixed seat, but a space for users who wish/need to sit in a wheelchair during screenings.

If you require a complimentary seat for a carer, you can select the seat next to the Wheelchair User space and select the ticket type called ‘Carer (CEA Card)’. You will then be able to enter the CEA Card number on the Discount Page for a price reduction to zero.

If your carer does not have a CAE Card, please email us at [email protected] and we can assist with making sure that your carer’s ticket is free of charge.

Do you have toilets with disabled access?
The toilets in our listed building are below the screen down a few steps. We have a key to the wheelchair friendly toilet at the church across the road. If you would like to use these facilities, please approach a staff member who will happily show you the way.

Special screenings

Do you show films with hard-of-hearing subtitles?
We always try to show at least one or two screenings per week with deaf/HOH subtitles. Please consult the listings for more info.

Do you do Parent and Baby screenings?
Every other Thursday our lunchtime screenings (12.30pm) are exclusively for parents (and their friends) with babies under the age of one. No baby in the party, no entry! There is very limited space in the auditorium for large buggies, so if you have collapsable pushchairs or a baby carrier we would be very grateful if you bought these instead.
