The Bikeriders15

Directed by Jeff Nichols | USA | 2023 | 1h 56m | Starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist

A young woman rejects her small-town life after falling in with The Vandals, a Midwestern motorcycle club made up of outsiders and motor enthusiasts. As the gang grows in both size and reputation, their life on the road becomes increasingly perilous. Inspired by photojournalist Danny Lyon’s 1967 study of Chicago bikers, director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) honours classic films like The Wild One and Easy Rider in this revved-up and richly textured 1960s biker gang crime saga, starring Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, and Jodie Comer.

Reviews

‘This film opens up the storytelling throttle with a throaty growl, delivering the doomy romance of an old-fashioned western and the thrills of a mob drama.’
★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

‘Nichols’s film is less interested in telling a story than pinning down a particular time, place and attitude – and does so with such pungent precision, you can all but smell it.’
★★★★
Robbie Collin, The Telegraph
