Kontinental ’2515

Directed by Radu Jude | Romania | 2025 | 1h 49m | Romanian w/ English subtitles | Starring Eszter Tompa, Annamária Biluska, Ilinca Manolache, Serban Pavlu, Gabriel Spahiu

In the heart of Transylvania’s capital, Cluj-Napoca, bailiff Orsolya is assigned to evict a homeless man from a cellar. What seems like a routine task quickly descends into chaos, revealing the absurd cruelty of bureaucracy. Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude delivers a razor-sharp mix of dark satire and social critique, offering a piercing look at justice, complicity, and the quiet erosion of empathy in modern Europe. Winner of the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival.

Reviews

‘It’s a film that is firmly grounded in the geopolitical specificity of Cluj, exploring ethnic tensions, economic inequalities, legacies of totalitarianism, the brutality of capitalism and the destructiveness of real estate.’
★★★★
Marina Ashioti, Little White Lies

‘It’s not an easy watch, but Jude’s film-making has such energy and punch.’
★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
