Nirvanna The Band The Show The MovieCert-TBC

Directed by Matthew Johnson | Canada | 2026 | 1h 40m | Starring Matt Johnson, Jay McCarrol, Ben Petrie, Ethan Eng, Michael Scott

Two hopeless musicians are desperately trying to book a gig in Toronto. But a time-travelling stunt goes sideways, and the pair find themselves flung back to 2008, where every encounter risks derailing their future selves. Their only way home? Track down a bottle of a long-discontinued soft drink. Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol make their long-awaited leap to the big screen, bringing their cult guerrilla TV series with them. The result is an anarchic, wildly inventive mockumentary, packed with time-travel chaos and the pair’s unmistakable DIY spirit.

Reviews

‘Because the movie’s on-the-fly style is as scruffy as its protagonists, it’s easy to underestimate the intelligence and artistry it takes to make something so silly.’
