Double IndemnityPG

Directed by Billy Wilder | USA | 1944 | 1h 48m | Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Edward G. Robinson, Byron Barr, Jean Heather

Insurance salesman Walter Neff thinks he’s pulling off the perfect crime when he conspires with the seductive Phyllis Dietrichson to murder her husband and collect his life insurance money. But as the plan spirals out of control, they soon finds themselves ensnared in a deadly game of greed. Based on a novella by James M. Cain, Billy Wilder’s (Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment) razor-sharp exploration of moral decay features one of cinema’s most iconic femme fatales and a plot that twists and tightens like a noose.

★★★★★
Marc Lee, The Telegraph

‘Film noir at its finest, a template of the genre, etc. Billy Wilder in full swing, Barbara Stanwyck’s finest hour, and Fred MacMurray makes a great chump.’
★★★★★
Rob Fraser, Empire Magazine
