Directed by Luna Carmoon | UK | 2023 | 2h 6m | Starring Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Joseph Quinn, Samantha Spiro, Hayley Squires, Cathy Tyson.

Seven-year-old Maria lives in South London with her mother, an obsessive hoarder, in a home filled with love and mounting heaps of rubbish. As Maria grows into her teenage years, she attempts to rediscover the magic of her childhood, a quest which intensifies when she develops a primal connection with an older man at her foster home. British writer-director Luna Carmoon draws from personal experiences to create this visceral psychological drama, tackling themes of grief, trauma, and burgeoning sexuality.

Reviews

‘Takes you on a wild journey. And as a filmmaker, Carmoon is a one-woman war on cliché. Proudly strange and provocative, but a major debut all the same.’
★★★★★
David Jenkins, Little White Lies

‘Carmoon is very much her own film-maker — and in Lightfoot Leon she has found a leading lady with animalistic, inhibited presence.’
★★★★
Ed Potton, The Times
