Oxford Pride presents: Blue Jean15
In 1980s Britain, with the emergence of Thatcher’s homophobic Section 28 law, closeted PE teacher Jean is forced to live a double life. However, when a new student begins to infiltrate Jean’s personal life and threatens to expose her sexuality, the pressure mounts on Jean to hold onto her job as well as her integrity. Georgia Oakley’s soulful character study is a moving ode to queer resilience featuring an award-winning performance by Rosy McEwan. Nominated for Outstanding British Debut at the BAFTAs.
A one-off screening introduced by Oxford Pride for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
Reviews
‘Rosy McEwen is riveting in powerful section 28 drama… as persuasive as it is powerful.’
★★★★★
Wendy Ide, The Observer
‘Jean is a complicated sort of hero, full of indecision and regret. It’s something bracingly captured by McEwen, who plays her as someone in a perpetual state of fight-or-flight.’
★★★★
Clarisse Loughery, The Independent

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
