Armageddon Time15

Directed by James Gray | USA | 2022 | 1h 54m | Starring Banks Repeta, Jaylin Webb, Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong

In 1980s New York, a young Jewish-American boy and his African-American classmate struggle with the expectations set by their families and wider society as they grow up in a world of privilege, inequality, and prejudice. Acclaimed director James Gray (Ad Astra, The Lost City of Z) takes inspiration from his own childhood in this unsentimental coming-of-age tale about the strength of family and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Reviews

‘Articulate, unflinching and sometimes unflattering. A melancholy marvel from one of our finest cine-memoirists.’
★★★★★
Hannah Strong, Little White Lies

‘Both a coming of age and an exploration of an era, this self-biographical reminiscence feels both regretful and hopeful – a filmmaker trying to make peace. It’s not sugar-coated, but it’s full of love.’
★★★★
Alex Godfrey, Empire Magazine

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
