The Tragedy of Macbeth15

Directed by Joel Coen | USA | 2021 | 1h 45m | Starring Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand, Brendan Gleeson, Corey Hawkins

One half of the Coen Brothers, Joel Coen adapts Shakespeare’s murderous tale of ambition, madness, and wrathful deceit. Shrouded in mist and masterful monochrome cinematography, Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand excel in the roles of a power-hungry couple with their eyes on the Scottish throne.

★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

‘It’s stage-bound in all the right ways, reminiscent of a much earlier cinema…It’s short, sharp and savage.’
