Rebel Dykes18

Directed by Harri Shanahan & Siân A. Williams | UK | 2021 | 1h 29m | Starring Seija Hirstio, De La Grace Volcano, Roz Kaveney

Rabble-rousing documentary about a group of friends who met at Greenham Common peace camp in the 1980s who went on to influence the discussion around LGBTQ+ rights by becoming artists, musicians and activists. A heady mash-up of animation, unseen archive footage, and interviews telling the story of a radical scene of squatters, BDSM nightclub revellers, and anti-Thatcher protestors.

Reviews

‘By capturing the culture of fetish, party and riot, feminism, sex and politics, this unique blend of styles offers a fitting representation of a punk subculture that gave ‘80s queer and feminist activism its vibrancy’
★★★★
Marina Ashioti, Little White Lies

‘What keeps Harri Shanahan and Siân A. Williams’s documentary throbbing is its archival, thematic richness’
