The Royal Hotel18

Directed by Kitty Green | Australia | 2023 | 1h 31m | Starring Julia Garner, Jessica Henwick, Herbert Nordrum, Hugo Weaving, Ursula Yovich

Best friends Hanna and Liv go backpacking in Australia. After they run out of money, they take temporary live-in jobs behind the bar of a pub in a remote Outback mining town. The locals give the girls a riotous introduction to Australian drinking culture, but they soon find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that spirals out of their control. Following the success of her debut feature (The Assistant), Kitty Green skilfully dissects male-female power dynamics in this nerve-wracking social thriller.

Reviews

‘Nerve-shredding…A psychological thriller, it’s all the more tense for Green’s smart understatement of the genre elements.’
★★★★★
Wendy Ide, The Observer

‘Other directors might have escalated this into the zone of outright horror, with gory payback awaiting. Not Green, who has the level intent of keeping it chillingly real.’
★★★★
Tim Robey, The Telegraph

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
