A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom. When a therapist’s patient steps through it and vanishes, she is compelled to follow, entering a disorienting, unstable dimension in a desperate attempt to bring him back. Blurring the line between perception and nightmare, the film expands the unsettling mythology of the cult online series created by Kane Parsons, bringing its distinctive “liminal horror” aesthetic to the big screen in a feature-length adaptation.
Reviews
‘YouTuber Kane Parsons makes his feature directing debut with this icily brilliant and genuinely disturbing conceptual horror film based on his web series’
★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
‘Backrooms could have taken any number of sabotaging turns, or undercut itself with effects (excess gore, say) that aren’t needed. Instead it builds with clear logic, solid acting, and doesn’t skimp on being suggestive.’
★★★★★
Tim Robey, The Telegraph

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
