Reflection In A Dead Diamond15

Directed by Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani | France | 2025 | 1h 27m | French & Italian w/ English subtitles | Starring Fabio Testi, Manon Beuchot, Yannick Renier, Koen De Bouw, Maria de Medeiros

When the mysterious woman staying in the room next door suddenly vanishes, a suave former spy in his seventies – now living in faded luxury on the Côte d’Azur – is pulled back into a world of fractured memories and buried secrets. As past and present begin to blur, he finds himself confronting the demons, lovers, and betrayals that have haunted him for decades. Set against the sun-drenched glamour of the French Riviera, the film twists together espionage and psychological intrigue in a dazzlingly stylised thriller. Filmmaking duo Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani return with a bold, kaleidoscopic spy caper that pays affectionate tribute to the pulpy European grindhouse cinema of the 1960s and 70s, combining high-concept storytelling with striking visual invention.

Reviews

‘This is a hypnotic, invigorating film, and a step up for the duo—much like the diamonds that shimmer so seductively through their frames, it has a cold, bright, gem-like brilliance.’
Isaac Feldberg, RogerEbert.com

‘The energy and style serve as an homage to Euro-spy thrillers of the past, but the technique also accomplishes something that’s been tried multiple times but not quite so well: translating the visual tack — and smack — of a graphic novel into cinema.’
John Anderson, Wall Street Journal
