Directed by Ali Ray | UK | 2020 | 1h 41m

Who was Frida Kahlo? Instantly recognisable for her vivid self-portraits, signature brows and flower crowns, Kahlo was far more than a cultural icon. This documentary journeys through her extraordinary life and work, exploring the passion, politics and personal struggles that shaped one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Blending groundbreaking exhibition footage with expert insight, this acclaimed film from Exhibition on Screen examines Kahlo’s most important works in remarkable detail. Guided by letters written in her own words, it reveals the emotions, symbolism and deeply personal stories behind her art. Returning to cinemas with new material from the major transatlantic exhibition Frida Kahlo: The Making of an Icon, developed by Tate Modern and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, this award-winning documentary offers an intimate portrait of a revolutionary artist whose legacy continues to resonate today.
