In Madagascar’s illegal sapphire mines, 20-year-old Kwame is trying to survive. When an unexpected incident takes him back to his hometown, he reconnects with his family and old friends. Faced with rampant corruption, Kwame must choose between easy wealth and staying true to his roots. Director Luck Razanajaona’s powerful debut draws on the energy of 1970s African civil rights movements, blending political history with a deeply personal journey.
This screening is presented in collaboration with Maona Art. Maona Art specialise in curating specialised film programmes celebrating the best new voices in African cinema. For more information visit: https://www.maona.art/

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
