Clueless12A

Directed by Amy Heckling | USA | 1995 | 1h 37m | Starring Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison

Cher is rich, stylish, and rules her Beverly Hills high school’s social scene. She’s a master at matchmaking and fashion advice, but when it comes to her own love life, things get complicated. A witty, modern take on Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’, Amy Hekerilng’s high-school comedy cleverly skewers teen movie tropes and the glamorous excess of 1990s Beverly Hills with charm and humour.

Our screening on Friday 1st August will be introduced by season curator and film writer Ally Pitts.

Reviews

‘Scratch below the shiny exterior, though, and what emerges is something altogether more clever, as much a sharp, satirical parody of the affluent as it is hip, sassy entertainment dressed in designer labels.’
