Blue Morpho + Q&A w/ Ed O’BrienU
Directed by Kit Monteith, Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play journeys through the wilds of Wales, showcasing the central elements of Radiohead member Ed O’Brien’s first solo album in six years. Pivoting around the artist’s intimate meditations on what he terms ‘the dark night of the soul’, the film contours rivers, peaks, and ancient rainforests—all of which became refuge for O’Brien during the album’s composition. As O’Brien realigns himself within the frequencies of the natural world, Monteith showcases how melancholy transforms into beauty, and culminates in a deep gratitude for the healing powers of nature. (15mins) – Screening plus an in-person Q&A with Ed O’Brien and director Kit Monteith.
This special event also includes showings of the following short films directed by Kit Monteith.
Sound Trip: Music of Mosaics (2025)
This innovative documentary captures the journey behind director Kit Monteith’s audio-historical exploration of the sonic potential hidden within Oxfordshire’s North Leigh Roman Villa. Amongst the ruins of an ancient civilisation lies a preserved fragment of the villa’s mosaic floor—first laid in the mid-fourth century AD. Captivated by the historical artefact, and in pursuit of forging genealogical and artistic connections between past and present, Monteith assembles a gamut of celebrated collaborators to produce an alternative sensory experience of a relic from the past. (25mins)
Creme Anglaise: The Making of What Went Down (2015)
Set amongst the enchanting grounds of studio La Fabrique in St Rémy de Provence, and shot entirely on a VHS camera, Creme Anglaise journeys through sensory snapshots that capture the ebb and flow of the creation of What Went Down, FOALS’ seminal 2015 record. Raw and impressionistic in its final form, this intimate portrait of one of the UK’s most important bands, catalysed the start of Monteith’s foray into audio-focused filmic documentation. (28mins)
