The OdysseyCert-TBC
Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaca, embarks on a long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War, confronting vengeful gods, monstrous trials, and tests of his cunning and humanity along the way. Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, fresh off his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, brings Homer’s epic to the screen, shot entirely on IMAX 70mm with an all-star cast.

For our screening on Sunday 16th August, join Mara Gold, classicist and author of “Ancient Myths and Legends Without Men” for a pre-screening introduction on women in “The Odyssey.” Women in mythology were divided into misogynistic archetypes and “The Odyssey” is no exception. In fact, this story highlights “acceptable” and “unacceptable” women better than any other – from Penelope as the ideal loyal wife and mother to Circe the witch who subverted women’s domestic skills by using them for sorcery, via the virgin goddess Athena and monsters like Scylla and Charybdis. Learning the role of women in this epic tale will give you a deeper understanding not only of the film but also of women in the ancient world.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
