The Phantom of the Opera + Live ScorePG
Deep beneath the Paris Opera House lives a mysterious, masked figure called The Phantom. A brilliant but disfigured composer, the Phantom is obsessed with transforming chorus singer Christine into a star. Lon Chaney, the legendary “Man of a Thousand Faces,” gives a haunting performance in this iconic adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel, now marking 100 years since its first release in 1925.
This fast-paced and gripping silent film tells a dramatic story of obsession, abduction, murder, and revenge. It features stunning visual effects, rich colour tinting, and an unforgettable early Technicolor scene where the Phantom crashes a masked ball in vivid red.
Bristol-based band Minima has been creating live soundtracks for silent films since 2006. Their powerful original score for The Phantom of the Opera brings the film to life with a mix of horror, romance, pathos, and even dark humour. Using drums, bass, guitar, and cello, Minima’s music follows the Phantom into the depths of his eerie underground world.
