At the start of the Second World War, former model Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller takes on a new role as a photographer for British Vogue. Dissatisfied with the limitations of covering life on the home front, she seeks war accreditation and sets off for Europe. Over the subsequent years, Lee captures some of the most iconic and haunting images of the war, including the liberation of Paris and the atrocities of the Holocaust at Buchenwald and Dachau. Oscar-winner Kate Winslet brings Miller’s extraordinary story to life in this compelling historical drama, directed by Ellen Kuras, a renowned cinematographer known for her work with filmmakers like Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese.

Reviews

‘Kate Winslet scores her best ever role in this biopic of a…restless, fierce, independent woman who found her voice as a witness to war’
★★★★
Caryn James, BBC

‘A satisfyingly textured portrait of a remarkable and unusual woman, who had an almost Zelig-like gift for bearing witness to key moments in history.’
Wendy Ide, Screen International
