Loving Highsmith12A

Directed by Eva Vitija | Germany/Switzerland | 2022 | 1h 24m

A celebrated author best know for her novels ‘Strangers on a Train’ and ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’, Patricia Highsmith lived a double life which required her to hide her vibrant love affairs from her family and the public. Focusing on her troubled identity, this intimate documentary sheds new light on her life and writing through personal diaries and notebooks, and the reflections of her lovers, friends and family.

Reviews

‘Lays bare the turmoil bubbling beneath Highsmith’s cold image, both enriching and deepening our understanding of her fiction.’
★★★★
Sophie Monks Kaufman, Little White Lies

‘In centering the writer’s sexuality in her lively and captivating documentary Loving Highsmith, filmmaker Eva Vitija does a great service not only to fans of Highsmith’s, but to all of queer history.’
★★★★
