The Secret Agent15
Brazil, 1977. A widowed former university researcher is forced into hiding. Determined to reunite with his son, he journeys from São Paulo to Recife during Carnival. There, he finds shelter in a resistance commune — but it soon becomes clear that the city is far from the safe haven he imagined. Featuring an Oscar-nominated performance by Wagner Moura, director Kleber Mendonça Filho creates a slow-burning political thriller that examines Brazil’s painful past through a gripping, character-driven narrative.
Reviews
‘This movie, visually and dramatically superb in every way, moves with unhurried confidence across the screen, pausing to savour every bizarre bit of comedy or erotic byway, or note of pathos, on its circuitous path to the violent finale.’
★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
‘An intimate epic that always delivers the unexpected. Kleber Mendonça Filho is one of the most exciting and vital filmmakers in Latin America.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
