The End We Start From15

Directed by Mahalia Belo | UK | 2023 | 1h 41m | Starring Jodie Comer, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Fry, Gina McKee, Mark Strong

As a pregnant woman anticipates the arrival of her new baby, catastrophic floods begin to submerge Britain. The London home of this soon-to-be family becomes uninhabitable, prompting them to seek refuge outside of the city. However, the disaster is just beginning. Adapted from Megan Hunter’s acclaimed 2017 dystopian novel, Mahalia Belo’s environmental sci-fi offers a poetic portrayal of family survival, starring BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning British actress Jodie Comer.

Reviews

‘Jodie Comer is tremendous…The Killing Eve star finally shakes that off as her defining role, thanks to a heroic performance in Mahalia Belo’s tense, stirring new film’
★★★★
Tim Robey, The Telegraph

‘Comer’s vulnerability and idealism are authentic as are her determination and a dash of real ruthlessness… She carries everything with unselfconscious strength and style.’
★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
