Romería15

Directed by Carla Simón | Spain | 2025 | 1h 52m | Spanish w/ English subtitles | Starring Llúcia Garcia, Mitch Martín, Tristán Ulloa, Celine Tyll, León Romagosa

Aspiring filmmaker Marina travels to the sun-drenched coast of Galicia in search of the family history she barely knows. Orphaned at a young age after losing both parents to addiction and illness, she follows the clues left behind in her mother’s diary, uncovering long-buried truths about their unconventional lives and complicated past. As memories and revelations surface, Marina is forced to confront the emotional legacy her parents left behind, and the parts of herself shaped by their absence. Warm, wistful and deeply personal, this new film from Golden Bear-winning Spanish director Carla Simón (Summer 1993, Alcarràs) draws on her own life to create a moving portrait of identity and belonging.

Reviews

‘Catalan filmmaker Carla Simón delivers another heartfelt exploration on the joys and pains of extended family. A beautifully fitting addition to the director’s personal body of work.’
★★★★
Rafa Sales Ross, Little White Lies

‘What were our parents like before we were born? What was it like for them to be people just like us? It is at the centre of this distinctive, intelligent, sympathetic drama.’
★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
