Reality12A

Directed by Tina Satter | USA | 2023 | 1h 23m | Starring Sydney Sweeney, Josh Hamilton, Marchánt Davis, Benny Elledge, Allan Anthony Smith

On a Saturday afternoon in June 2017, two FBI agents turn up at the door of a US intelligence officer and ask to enter her home. After questioning, she is charged with the unauthorised release of sensitive government information. Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) stars in this tense political drama which uses the real life transcript of the arrest of Reality Winner (who was detained for leaking documents concerning Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election) as the basis of its script.

Reviews

‘This, the film says, is what it really feels like to be on the receiving end of the law in a case like this: a calm, professional, technocratic but relentless display of overwhelming power.’
★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

‘Reality transcends staginess as a strikingly well-realised piece of filmmaking, using judicious sound design and expressive lighting to gain a surreally vivid edge.’
★★★★
Tim Robey, The Telegraph
