Operation Mincemeat12A

Directed by John Madden | UK | 2021 | 2h 8m | Starring Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Jason Isaacs, Penelope Wilton, Mark Gatiss, Simon Russell Beale

In 1943, Allied forces plan to invade Sicily in an attempt to break Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe. For the assault to be successful, British intelligence hatch a plan to confuse the enemy and weaken their defences. This is the incredible true story of how two secret agents attempted to turn the tides of conflict in Europe with the help of fake documents planted on a corpse. An engrossing and entertaining British spy thriller directed by BAFTA-nominated filmmaker John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel).

Reviews

‘[Macfadyen] gets most of the best lines and quips and carries his role with a deft balance of sympathy and malign intent.’
★★★★
Kevin Maher, The Times

‘The wholesome mood of spiffing pluck reminds us of the best of those British war movies actually made within shouting distance of 1945, before the country turned the genre into an industry.’
★★★★
Danny Leigh, The FT
