North Cormorant Island + Director Q&ACert-TBC
Join us in person for a free screening of North Cormorant Island, a unique film about time, place, mortality and human relationships with the land and the sea. The film blends observational documentary in the remote fishing village of Kitaushima on Sado Island with poetic reflections on the director’s childhood in his father’s village in Wales. The film has won several honours, including the Audience Award at the 2024 Tokyo Documentary Film Festival and Silver Award at the 2024 Spotlight Documentary Awards. Stick around afterward for an engaging Q&A with the writer, director, and producer, John Williams, Visiting Professor of Japanese Studies at Oxford Brookes University.
Tickets for this event are free and are available externally via Eventbrite.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
