Nitram15

Directed by Justin Kurzel | Australia | 2021 | 1h 52m | Starring Caleb Landry Jones, Judy Davis, Anthony LaPaglia, Essie Davis

In suburban Australia, a frustrated young man lives an unfulfilling life alone with his parents. When an unexpected friendship with a reclusive heiress comes to an end, he becomes increasingly angry with the world and begins a slow descent into violence. A disturbing psychological portrait of a mass murderer, based on the true events leading up to the Port Arthur massacre of 1996.

Reviews

‘Another extraordinary achievement from Kurzel, who has a penchant for evoking gut-sinking emotional atmosphere.’
★★★★★
Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian

‘Nitram is a stark, difficult, but deeply reflective film that asks sincerely why we describe these crimes as incomprehensible at the very same time as we watch the same patterns unfold, again and again.’
★★★★
Clarisse Loughery, The Independent
