Little Women (1994)U

Directed by Gillian Armstrong | USA | 1994 | 1h 58m | Starring Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne

A tender adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel following the lives of the four March sisters growing up alongside their mother during the American Civil War. With its starry cast, including an Oscar-nominated performance from Winona Rhyder, and its faithful recapturing of the novel’s homely spirit, this is without doubt our favourite of many versions of ‘Little Women’ to grace the big screen.

Reviews

‘Ms. Armstrong instantly demonstrates that she has caught the essence of this book’s sweetness and cast her film uncannily well’
Janet Maslin, The New York Times
