Heat15

Directed by Michael Mann | USA | 1995 | 2h 51m | Starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd

Master thief Neil McCauley leads an elite crew through a series of daring heists across Los Angeles as he plans one final bank robbery before retiring. At the same time, Lieutenant Vincent Hanna is determined to stop him while struggling with turmoil in his own personal life. Although they stand on opposite sides of the law, both men recognise and respect each other’s skill and discipline, knowing that a violent confrontation is almost inevitable. Michael Mann’s meticulously crafted crime thriller delivers unforgettable set pieces, a strong sense of urban isolation, and marks the first on-screen pairing of Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

Reviews

‘Like Kubrick, Mann takes a genre premise that seems like no big deal, and expands it into a cosmos of its own. Heat might simply be the most spectacular B-movie ever made, but that’s impressive enough.’
Jonathan Romney, The Guardian

‘This is simply the best American crime movie — and indeed, one of the finest movies, period — in over a decade.’
Geoff Andrew, Time Out
