Jack Bond Double-Feature: Separation / It Couldn’t Happen Here15

Directed by Jack Bond | UK | 1968 + 1987 | 1h 33m + 1h 26m

Join us for a double-bill featuring two cult classics, back-to-back by visionary British director Jack Bond (1937–2024), exploring identity, fantasy, and Britain in transformation.

6.30pm – Separation (15)
Dir. Jack Bond. UK, 1968. 1h 33m. Starring Jane Arden, David de Keyser, Ann Lynn, Iain Quarrier, Terence de Marney.
Amid the collapse of her marriage, a young woman begins to unravel, experiencing a nervous breakdown that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1960s ‘swinging’ London, her story unfolds through a fragmented, darkly humorous narrative where dreams and desires pulse as vividly as the city itself. A key work of British countercultural cinema, Jack Bond’s experimental psychological drama received only a limited release upon its debut, but has since been celebrated for its bold visual style and daring exploration of the female psyche.

8pm – Intermission (30mins)

8.30pm – It Couldn’t Happen Here (15)
Dir. Jack Bond. UK, 1987. 1h 26m. Starring Neil Tennant, Chris Lowe, Carmen Du Sautoy, Barbara Windsor, Neil Dickson.
Pet Shop Boys Chris Lowe and Neil Tennant set off on a surreal journey across England, but which England are they really traveling through? Is it the nostalgic landscape of their childhoods, or the harsh, fragmented reality of Thatcher-era Britain? Blending pop surrealism with the structure of a classic road movie, this bold film features iconic tracks from the duo’s first two albums, including ‘West End Girls’, ‘It’s a Sin’, and ‘Always On My Mind’.
