Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color12A

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki | Japan | 2024 | 2h 7m | Japanese w/ English subtitles | Starring Ryunosuke Kamiki, Sakura Andô, Munetaka Aoki, Minami Hamabe, Kuranosuke Sasaki

Japan is still reeling from the devastation of the Second World War when a colossal threat appears off Tokyo’s coast, bringing the spectre of further destruction to an already scarred nation. Koichi, a deserter haunted by his first encounter with Godzilla during the war, sees this as a chance to redeem his past actions. Now, seventy years after Godzilla’s first appearance on the big screen, the iconic monster returns in a stunning black-and-white reimagining of Takashi Yamazaki’s Oscar-winning film from last year.

Reviews

‘Heartfelt and often awe-inspiring, Japanese VFX wizard Takashi Yamazaki delivers the best kaiju movie in decades.’
★★★★
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out

‘The aesthetic trick also plays nicely into the themes of Minus One, given that the film rewinds the franchise’s kaiju mythos back to the very beginning.’
Berry Hertz, Globe and Mail

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
