Fanny and Alexander15

Directed by Ingmar Bergman | Sweden | 1982 | 3h 9m | Swedish & German w/ English subtitles | Starring Bertil Guve, Pernilla Allwin, Kristina Adolphson, Börje Ahlstedt, Kristian Almgren

As children in the loving Ekdahl family, Fanny and Alexander enjoy a happy life with their parents, who run a theatre company. After the unexpected death of their father, the household dynamic experiences a sudden and sad change when their mother marries a stern bishop. Intended as his swan-song, Ingmar Bergman’s warmest and most autobiographical film combines his trademark melancholy and emotional intensity to present a nostalgic tale of familial love.
