Under pressure from the Egyptian authorities, actor George Fahmy reluctantly agrees to take the lead role in a government-backed prestige production. What begins as a reluctant professional compromise quickly spirals into something far more dangerous when he becomes entangled in a clandestine affair with the wife of a powerful general. From Swedish–Egyptian filmmaker Tarik Saleh, known for The Nile Hilton Incident and Boy from Heaven, this sharp political thriller delivers a satirical look at film-industry vanity while exposing the entrenched systems of corruption in Cairo.

Reviews

‘Politics is showbiz for ugly people, goes the old zinger. The final instalment of Tarik Saleh’s Cairo trilogy compares the two worlds with hilarious — and then brutal — results.’
★★★★
Ed Potton, The Times

‘A satire with a dissident energy and a dark denouement, it’s an Armando Iannucci-esque send-up of something deadly serious.’
★★★★
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
