Directed by Tahir Rana | Canada | 2021 | 1h 32m | Starring Keira Knightley, Marion Cotillard, Jim Broadbent, Sam Claflin, Helen McCrory

The true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who came of age in Berlin on the eve of the Second World War. As the Nazi’s grip on society tightened and their anti-Semitic polices inspired violent mobs, she escaped to the safety of the South of France and began to paint her life story. Featuring the voice of Keira Knightley, this heartbreaking animation about overcoming inconceivable hardship delivers a powerful story of determination.

Reviews

‘Tahir Rana and Éric Warin make provocative storytelling choices, consistently accentuating the political darkness around Salomon with a festering sense of familial unease.’
