BlackBerry15

Directed by Matt Johnson | Canada | 2023 | 2h | Starring Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, Matt Johnson, Kelly Van der Burg, Laura Cilevitz

In Canada during the 1990s, a pair of computer nerds stumble upon a technological breakthrough that has the potential to revolutionise the communication industry. However, they find themselves at a loss when it comes to monetising their discovery. Over the span of a decade, with the assistance of a ruthless CEO, they witness the spectacular rise and fall of their once-revolutionary mobile device, the BlackBerry. A witty and entertainingly offbeat comedy satirising the unchecked greed of modern “tech bro” industries.

Reviews

‘A corporate comedy of errors — but the film really shines thanks to Howerton, whose towering, shark-like performance makes him a villain for the ages.’
★★★★
Beth Webb, Empire Magazine

‘Even more than The Social Network, where Aaron Sorkin’s script treats Mark Zuckerberg and co like flawed deities, this blackly comic corporate drama finds something intrinsically ridiculous about these egotistical men.’
★★★★
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
