Financial Times names UPP Among the World’s Most Breathtaking Cinemas

Jul 15, 2026 | News

We’re delighted to share some exciting news: we’ve been featured by the Financial Times in its article, World’s Most Breathtaking Cinemas.

To be recognised alongside some of the world’s most remarkable cinemas is a tremendous honour. The feature celebrates some of the most stunning locations to watch movies around the world and highlights cinemas that create memorable experiences through their architecture, atmosphere, and sense of place.

As one of only three UK based cinemas included in the list, this inclusion for UPP is more than just recognition of our gorgeous, 115 year old art-deco building – it’s also testament everyone who has helped make the cinema what it is today, from our dedicated team of staff and volunteers to local residents and visitors who continue to support us.

If you haven’t visited us yet, there’s never been a better time to experience one of the world’s most breathtaking cinemas™ for yourself.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
