The Love That Remains15
Anna and Magnús live with their three children and a sheepdog in the peaceful Icelandic countryside. When tensions in their marriage begin to surface, they struggle to hold on to the memories of the life they built together. Acclaimed filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason (director of Godland) brings warmth, unexpected humour, and emotional depth to this intimate portrait of a relationship. Set against the majestic Icelandic landscape and the passing of the seasons, the film captures the quiet beauty and fragility of family life.
Reviews
‘What makes the film special, besides the beauty of Pálmason’s own camerawork, is the way it is structured: in fragmentary style, focusing on imagery rather than narrative, resembling a filmed mood board or a visual poem with densely patterned rhymes.’
★★★★★ Jonathan Romney, The FT
‘The symbolism is lightly worn here in a gently observational film that’s underpinned with humanism and compassion. Here, the healing happens when you’re busy worrying about the dishes.’
★★★★ Philip De Semlyen, Time Out

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
