My Night with MaudPG

Directed by Eric Rohmer | France | 1969 | 1h 50m | French w/ English subtitles | Starring Jean-Louis Trintignant, Françoise Fabian, Marie-Christine Barrault, Antoine Vitez, Léonide Kogan

A Catholic engineer in his early thirties lives by a strict moral code, devoting himself to mathematics and philosophy. After noticing the gentle Françoise at Mass, he resolves to make her his wife. But when an unplanned night at the apartment of Maud, a bold and recently divorced woman, forces him into close conversation and temptation, his rigid convictions are put to the test. In My Night at Maud’s, the most accomplished and celebrated entry in Éric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales, Jean-Louis Trintignant (Amour) delivers one of the most compelling portraits of inner conflict in 1960s cinema.
