Inside Llewyn Davis15

Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen | USA | 2013 | 1h 45m | Starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver

Set in 1961 New York City, folk singer Llewyn Davis finds himself at a crossroads. With no winter coat, no steady home, and a shrinking circle of allies, he faces overwhelming challenges as he strives – guitar in hand – to carve out a place in the music world. Renowned American filmmakers, the Coen Brothers (No Country For Old Men, Fargo), deliver a poignant exploration of artistic idealism, the pursuit of commercial success, and the heartbreak of an artist left behind by a swiftly evolving cultural landscape.

Reviews

‘This is instant A-list Coens; enigmatic, exhilarating, irresistible.’
★★★★★
Robbie Collin, The Telegraph

‘The Coens have given us a melancholic, sometimes cruel, often hilarious counterfactual version of music history. It’s a what-if imagining of a cultural also-ran that maybe tells us more about the truth than the facts themselves ever could.’
★★★★★
Dave Calhoun, Time Out
