Samurai Double-Feature: Seven Samurai & Shogun Assassin18
Sharpen your blades and buckle up for an epic night of samurai showdowns with our action-packed double feature.
We’re kicking things off with Akira Kurosawa’s legendary Seven Samurai, where a ragtag crew of warriors band together to save a village from a pack of ruthless bandits. One of the most thrilling movie epics of all time, Seven Samurai has since become an essential touchstone for Westerns and Hollywood action movies ever since.
After a quick break to catch your breath, it’s time for Shogun Assassin to crank it up a notch! Follow a revenge-driven rōnin and his son as they slice and dice their way through waves of ninja assassins. Flashing swords, spurting blood, and a pulsing synth soundtrack—this cult favourite is a midnight movie classic that’s influenced artists from Quentin Tarantino to Wu-Tang Clan.
This double-bill includes an introduction by Dr Pete Boss (Senior Lecturer in Film, Oxford Brookes University) and 2 intermissions (a 5min interval during Seven Samurai, plus a 30min break in between the two films).
This screening is part of the BFI’s national Art Of Action tour. For more information go to: https://www.bfiartofaction.co.uk/home

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
