Green Border15

Directed by Agnieszka Holland | Poland | 2023 | 2h 32m | Polish & Arabic w/ English subtitles | Starring Jalal Altawil, Maja Ostaszewska, Behi Djanati Atai, Tomasz Wlosok, Dalia Naous

In the treacherous and swampy forests straddling the border of Belarus and Poland, refugees from the Middle East and Africa are drawn in by government propaganda falsely promising an easy path to the European Union. Trapped in a tangled web of misinformation, conflicting interests, and exploitation, they become mere pawns in a geopolitical power play. Three decades after her Oscar-nominated film Europa Europa, Agnieszka Holland constructs a complex, immersive, and deeply human narrative of the modern global humanitarian crisis.

‘Green Border is a tough watch: a punch to the solar plexus. But a vital bearing of cinematic witness to what is happening in Europe right now.’
