In the matriarchal ocean village of Iyi, West African water deity Mami Wata (‘Mother Water’) rules via an intermediary, revered village leader Mama Efe. But after a tragedy upsets the harmony of village life, unrest breaks out and sets off a violent clash of ideologies and a crisis of faith for the people of Iyi. Shot in striking black and white, Mami Wata is a futuristic, genre-bending fable that brings a West African deity to vibrant life.

MAONA presents a one-off screening followed by a Q&A with director C.J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi.

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts.
