Are You There God? It’s Me, MargaretPG

Directed by Kelly Fremon Craig | USA | 2023 | 1h 46m | Starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Benny Safdie, Elle Graham

In 1970s New York, a young girl’s life is turned upside-down when her family decide to move to the suburbs of New Jersey. Alongside drama at home and having to make new friends at a new school, she navigates the tumultuous throes of adolescence. Based on Judy Blume’s classic young adult novel, this timeless coming-of-age comedy explores teenage girlhood with humour and empathy aplenty.

Reviews

‘Destined to become a classic… an entertaining comedy that also happens to be a stunning evocation of the fear and yearning that come with standing on the precipice of adulthood.’
★★★★★
Lauren Mechling, The Guardian

‘A touching and tender adaptation that does justice to a book which means so much to so many. An enduring, superbly performed triumph.’
