Psychological thriller following the lives of twin doctors Elliot and Beverley who routinely trade each others’ identities, lives, and lovers. When Beverley falls in love with a patient, a schism develops between the two brothers sending them to the brink of madness. Jeremy Irons plays the role of both brothers in David Cronenberg’s award-winning psychosexual study of the relationship between body and the mind.

Reviews

‘An intense psychological drama which confronts [Cronenberg’s] familiar preoccupations — fear of physical and mental disintegration, mortality, the power struggle between the sexes — without the paradoxical protection of visceral disgust.’
Nigel Floyd, Time Out
