In 1963, student Anne has a bright future ahead of her, but her dreams of finishing her studies is shattered when she becomes unexpectedly pregnant. As her final exams approach, Anne decides to take matters into her own hands. Based on Annie Ernaux’s semi-autobiographical novel, Audrey Diwan’s empathetic yet visceral drama won The Golden Lion award for Best Film at 2021’s Venice Film Festival.

Reviews

‘Happening is an authentic and earnest work, and though it declines to polemicize, it is inarguably pro-choice.’
★★★★★
Natalia Winkleman, IndieWire

‘An exceptional, cold-eyed and politically trenchant character study…It’s hard to think of a film more necessary in the current moment.’
★★★★★
David Jenkins, Little White Lies

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
