Directed by Andreas Fontana | Argentina | 2021 | 1h 40m | Spanish & French w/ English subtitles | Starring Fabrizio Rongione, Elli Medeiros, Stéphanie Cléau

In 1980s Argentina, a private Swiss banker arrives in military-ruled Buenos Aires to replace a colleague who has mysteriously disappeared overnight. Moving through smoke-filled lounges and luxurious pool parties, he finds himself untangling a sinister web of colonialism, high finance, and a nation’s “Dirty War”. Written in collaboration with Argentinian filmmaker Mariano Llinás (La Flor), Andreas Fontana’s assured debut is a slow-burning depiction of the uneasy interplay between wealth and power.

Reviews

‘Pure evil is all around in this unnervingly subtle, sophisticated movie; an eerie oppression in the air. It is a film that continues to echo mysteriously inside my head.’
★★★★★
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

‘The striking feature film debut from Andreas Fontana brings a prickly thriller sensibility to the closed world of high finance and a piquancy to the phrase ‘dirty money’.’
Wendy Ide, ScreenDaily
