Picture StoriesPG

Directed by Rob West | UK | 2021 | 1h 13m | Starring Homer Sykes, David Hurn, Daniel Meadows

Britain’s best-selling magazine during the Second World War, Picture Post revolutionised the picture magazine. Using the freedom of new camera technology, the magazine’s photographers portrayed the lives of ordinary people, at home, on the street, unposed. Through its powerful, socially committed stories, Picture Post helped change the face of British photography. The remarkable story of this iconic magazine is told by its photographers, writers and editors in this fascinating documentary.

This one-off screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Rob West, in partnership with Photo Oxford Festival 2021.

Reviews

‘With photospread succinctness, Rob West’s inspiring documentary…lays out the case for its pioneeringly demotic photojournalism, high artistic credentials and impact on public policy.’

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road.We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We only show a few adverts – less than most cinemas – and we only play a couple of trailers, so please don’t be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
