The Girl with the Needle15
Struggling to survive in post-WWI Copenhagen, a newly unemployed and pregnant young woman is taken in by a charismatic elder to help run an underground adoption agency. A strong connection grows but her world shatters when she stumbles on the shocking truth behind her work. Inspired by a chilling true story, Magnus Von Horn’s visually striking black-and-white drama unfolds as a haunting blend of gruesome fairy tale and gothic nightmare.
🏆 Nominated for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards.
Reviews
‘This period piece offers a very different kind of female odyssey through a lonely and forbidding world. The result is harrowing but seriously impressive.’
★★★★
Philip De Semlyen, Time Out
‘It’s a black-and-white period piece invested with a supremely eerie folkloric edge – a bleak historical chapter made timeless, and all the more troubling for it.’
★★★★
Robbie Collin, The Telegraph

Our beautiful art deco inspired auditorium can be found just off East Oxford's Cowley Road. We are open 7 days a week. We open the cinema and box office 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each film, and the Box Office then closes 10 minutes after the film starts. We don’t show adverts, just a couple of trailers, so don't be late as the film itself starts very close to the advertised time!
